Kiwi, Banana, Ginger and Matcha Tea Smoothie

It has been awhile since my last blog post, primarily because a lot has been going on in my personal life including an exciting move to a new home. We were previously living in Annapolis, Maryland and have relocated to western Maryland which has it’s own beauty including mountain views and scenic landscapes. I’m looking forward to exploring and embracing the new area that we will call home including the amazing farmer’s market which opens in May, not that I’m counting down the days or anything. :)Until the farmer’s market opens, I’ve been trying to figure out some different ways to incorporate some of my favorite winter fruits into my diet. Kiwifruit is delicious and one of the often overlooked options in the fruit aisle. It's really a nutrition powerhouse, containing more Vitamin C per serving than an orange and more potassium than a banana. Kiwifruit also contains actinidain, a type of enzyme that some research suggests aids digestion. Two medium kiwifruit is considered a serving and only contains about 90 kcals and 22grams of carbohydrate (for my carb counters out there). IMG_1403 (1)This kiwi banana ginger and matcha tea smoothie is a great way to start the day or include as a post-workout recovery snack. Decrease prep time by peeling, slicing and freezing your kiwi and banana ahead of time. Simple, delicious and creamy, it's a great alternative to some of the other sugar-loaded green shakes that we see this time of year.
