How Much is Too Much Caffeine?

How much is too much caffeine? The Food and Drug Administration recommends no more than 400mg of caffeine daily for a healthy adult, which is equivalent to drinking about 4-5, 8-oz cups of coffee. The average American has a coffee mug that typically holds at least 16-oz. There are various factors impacting caffeine content of beverages including how coffee beans or tea leaves are processed and brewed. Additionally, everyone’s caffeine limits are different, some individuals take medications that might warrant limiting caffeine intake further or need to reduce consumption for other health reasons.
